People love to complain – that’s not a shock.
However, the show with the most complaints in the UK between 2020 and 2022 has been revealed in a document by the TECC with statistics shared by The Sun, and it just might surprise you.
Historically, the viewing public has heard about the floods of complaints received by Love Island over the course of its nine-season run.
The dating show has had many complainable moments – it had around 25,000 Ofcom complaints in 2021 over Faye Winter’s infamous reaction to footage of her ex-partner on Movie Night and even had the top three most complained-about television moments of 2022 as a whole.
In 2022, over the course of the 8-week show, 7482 complaints pertained to ‘alleged misogynistic and bullying behaviour’ by the men on the show.
But other British shows are proving controversial in the complaints figures, and one in particular has in fact surpassed the Love Island complaint count of 42,944 by quite a significant figure.
Good Morning Britain which received a whopping 75,623 complaints in two years is officially the most complained about TV show in the UK.
As for TV Soaps, Coronation Street garnered a hefty amount of complaints from the viewing public across Britain making it the most complained about Soap.
Of the very interesting results from the study, Marcus Saxton, Chairman of the IBVTA and CEO of TECC says, ‘Overall complaints about soaps only make up 1.42 per cent of all of the Ofcom complaints in recent years, and the majority haven’t received enough to even make the list, indicating that it’s a much less polarising format than other TV shows!’.
Marcus also noted that the most complained about television show format was unsurprisingly reality TV, which has always been a controversial category.
