Pell City USPS holds job fair for rural carrier positions

The United States Postal Service post office in Pell City is hosting a job fair to fill empty positions. Two particular jobs seeing a high need right now are rural carrier assistants and associates. These carriers are responsible for delivering and collecting mail in rural areas across the state.

Both positions serve as a back up to the traditional rural carrier position. Assistant rural carriers are responsible for covering rural areas on weekends or holidays. While associates only step in when a regular carrier has scheduled day offs or vacation.

As the summer months approach, Debra Fetterly with USPS says it is important to make sure these positions are filled so mail distribution is not disrupted.

“A lot of customers especially in the rural areas the especially rely on the postal service to bring them their medicines any kind of communications they have,” said Fetterly, “I don’t believe they get out as much to go to the suburban areas to go shopping there’s a lot more than do online shopping so we’re really the life line for many of them.”

A person must have valid state license and a reliable vehicle to qualify for the position. Fairs have already been held in Cullman, Hanceville, and Pinson, Alabama.

The job fair in Pell City will be held from 11am to 3pm at Pell City Post Office 1400 Martin St S Pell City, AL 35128.

The next job fair will be in Arab, AL on May 30.

Fetterly says people interested in the position in areas not hosting a job fair should reach out to their local post office for an application.
