Recently, New York Jets chairman Woody Johnson commented about his patience or lack thereof when it comes to winning. Even though his team is on the brink of acquiring a future Pro Football Hall of Famer at the quarterback position in Aaron Rodgers, they haven’t sniffed the playoffs since the first term of the Obama administration.
That cold truth may have stung just a little bit more on Wednesday night, as the Sacramento Kings clinched a spot in the NBA playoffs. With the Kings snapping a 16-season playoff drought, the Jets (12 seasons) now have the longest active playoff drought out of any of the four major sports leagues.

The Jets haven’t made the playoffs since 2010 when they lost the AFC Championship Game to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The closest Gang Green got to reaching the playoffs since then was in 2015, when all the team had to do was win a Week 17 game against the Buffalo Bills to clinch a berth. The Jets ultimately lost that game in crushing fashion, as Ryan Fitzpatrick threw three late interceptions to keep New York out of the playoff picture.
This past season, the Jets came close again. They stood at 7-4 before losing six straight games due to extremely poor quarterback play.
Right behind the Jets are the Buffalo Sabres of the NHL, who have a 10-season playoff drought. The closest NFL team in reach is the Denver Broncos, at seven seasons. That likely doesn’t comfort Jets fans.
The NFL world reacted to the horrible Jets news on social media.
And with that, #Jets now have the longest playoff drought in the big four USA leagues
1 – Jets (NFL) – 12 years
2 – Sabres (NHL) – 11 years
3 – Tigers (MLB) – 8 years
4 – Angels (MLB) – 8 years
5 – Broncos (NFL) – 7 years
6 – Pirates (MLB) – 7 years
7 – Royals (MLB) – 7 years https://t.co/gnh0JkoXfr— Joe Caporoso (@JCaporoso) March 30, 2023
