Newcastle United vs Man United prediction, odds, betting tips and best bets for Premier League match | Sporting News

Newcastle United and Manchester United will renew their fierce rivalry this weekend as Erik ten Hag’s side travel to St James’ Park in the Premier League.

The hosts will be ready to go again after drawing 1-1 with Paris Saint-Germain in midweek. For most of the match the Magpies led after an Alexander Isak strike, before a controversial penalty was awarded against them in the 97th minute which Kylian Mbappe duly converted.

The visitors also endured another disappointing result in European action, as they threw away 2-0 and 3-1 leads during their match against Galatasaray, with the Turkish side eventually rallying to claim a precious point in the 3-3 draw.

United goalkeeper Andre Onana again came under criticism after gifting their opposition two goals and he’ll need to improve quickly before playing in front of the hostile Newcastle faithful at the weekend.

The Sporting News previews the game below with our prediction and best bets.

Newcastle United vs Man United best bet

  • Pick: Over 2.5 goals scored
  • Odds: -140 (DraftKings)

There were two takeaways from both of these side’s Champions League matches in midweek: firstly that Newcastle can find a way to score against some of Europe’s biggest sides and secondly, that Manchester United’s defence remains vulnerable in the big occasions.

That should make this a high-scoring affair as a result, especially with Eddie Howe’s side returning to St James’ Park – where they put four past Chelsea en route to another big victory last weekend.

Manchester United should also contribute to the scoring in this match as they’ve scored in all five matches since their 3-0 home loss to the Magpies in the League Cup in early November. Three of their past four have also seen them net exactly three goals with each of those scoring displays coming away from home, which could be a good omen heading up to Tyneside.

Newcastle United vs Man United flier bet

  • Pick: Newcastle to win, both teams to score and Anthony Gordon to score anytime
  • Odds: +550 (DraftKings)

Although Manchester United have performed well in the Premier League of late, winning five of their past six league matches, we’re expecting their European hangover to get the better of them here.

At the start of November, the Magpies demolished Ten Hag’s side 3-0 at Old Trafford and overall, have performed well against United of late, losing just once across the last five competitive head-to-head meetings. There’s also the added note to mention that Newcastle have five on the bounce at home in the Premier League.

On top of that, this accumulator also adds in the both teams to score selection which is likely to come in looking at both sides previous few matches, and also has Anthony Gordon to score anytime for the hosts.

So far this season, the former Everton winger has been in solid form for Eddie Howe’s side, netting five Premier League goals. Three of those strikes have come in his three most recent home league outings at St James’ Park. So with the visitors’ defence struggling in midweek, we’re expecting Gordon to get some opportunities to score again.
