OSTRAVA, Czechia — As the back of the group stage at the IIHF Men’s World Championship continues, the United States is hoping for an easy three points against Poland on Friday.

The Americans have had a topsy-turvy start to the tournament. After falling to Sweden to start the tournament, the U.S. came away with an easy win over Germany. However, they only picked up a point in an overtime loss to Slovakia on Tuesday. Team USA got back above .500 thanks to a convincing 5-0 victory over France on Thursday. As a result, the Americans are tied for third in Group B with Latvia.

Matt Boldy and Johnny Gaudreau lead the U.S. with six points each.

Poland is still searching for its first win. They kicked off group play last Saturday with a valiant effort against Latvia, losing in overtime. Since then, they have fallen to Sweden, France and Slovakia, all in regulation. They sit at the bottom of Group with just one point, five points out of fourth place. Macia Krzysztof is the only player with two goals for the Polish side.
